Thomas is excited that the Wansford Controller is letting him pull the mail train for one day only!

Come along and meet Postie Pete and his Cat, Ginger, who work on the Mail train.

Mail trains, or Travelling Post Offices (TPOs), used to run throughout the night, dropping off and picking up bags of letters non-stop using a special net on the side of the train. We’re now one of the only places in the country that can still do this. Thomas has been practicing this and would love to show all the boys and girls, and grown ups how he can do this just as well as the bigger engines!

The Mail Train experience lasts around 1 hour and consists of:

  • Ride on the Mail train pulled by Thomas
  • We’ll stop the mail train so everyone can get off, and watch Thomas do these mailbag exchanges from the side of the line.
  • Ginger has been working hard to make sure there are no mice eating the post. Can you help him make sure the train is mice free?
  • Ride Thomas’ Mail Train along his branch line, through the tunnel. Have a go at sorting the letters on the move to make sure they get to the right place!
  • At Yarwell watch Thomas run around his train and help Pete and Ginger unload the bags of mail that have been sorted and exchanged
  • At Wansford our playground and shop and café will all be open, along with our Riverside picnic area.

Space on the Mail Train is strictly limited and prebooking is essential.

Thomas and the Mail Train departs Wansford at 11.50 and 14.05, however please arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure we can get everyone onboard for a prompt departure.

We regret that due to the historic nature of the coaches, and the mailbag exchange site, there is no disabled access to this event.

One of Thomas’ bigger friends will also be pulling the main line train down to Peterborough, though this service is covered by a Rover ticket, which must be purchased separately to the Thomas and the Mail Train Tickets
